New set coincides with the release of Pistol
For the first time in over 20 years, 20 of the Sex Pistol’s recordings from 1976 to 1978 are collected together to tell the story of one of the world’s most influential and extraordinary bands. UMG has announced the release of Sex Pistols – The Original Recordings for May 27th featuring 20 tracks comprised of hits, B-sides and more from the era. Several configurations will be released including CD, 2 LP standard black, 2 LP neon yellow, 2 LP neon green, and five different cassette options, as well as digital.
The collection soundtracks key singles to tell the story of one of the world’s most influential and extraordinary bands. The set includes “Anarchy In The UK,” “God Save The Queen,” “Pretty Vacant” and “Holidays In The Sun,” along with some essential B-sides like “I Wanna Be Me,” “Satellite,” and “Did You No Wrong.”
The album coincides with the release of the Disney+ and Hulu mini series, Pistol, which is set to debut on May 31st. The series is based on Steve Jones’ 2017 memoir Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol and was created and written by Craig Pearce. FX Productions is producing the show.
The synopsis reads, “The furious, raging storm at the center of this revolution are the Sex Pistols – and at the center of this series is Sex Pistols’ founding member and guitarist, Steve Jones.
“Jones’ hilarious, emotional and at times heartbreaking journey guides us through a kaleidoscopic telling of three of the most epic, chaotic and mucus-spattered years in the history of music.
“Based on Jones’ memoir Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, this is the story of a band of spotty, noisy, working-class kids with ‘no future’, who shook the boring, corrupt establishment to its core, threatened to bring down the government and changed music and culture forever.”
All six episodes drop on May 31st on Disney+ and Hulu.
