The Broadway production will also tour in the fall of 2024

Shucked, the Tony Award-winning country music Broadway comedy featuring a score by the Nashville songwriting team of Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, is being adapted into a feature film. Producer Mike Bosner announced the news during the production’s final curtain call at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City on Sunday (Jan 14th).

“We’re all a little sad to say goodbye to this, but there’s some good news,” Bosner says. “We don’t have to say goodbye just yet, because we will be making a feature film of Shucked.”

Deadline reports that Mandaly Pictures will produce the film adaptation. Mandalay president Jason Michael Berman and Jordan Moldo will serve as producers along with Alan Fox. Executive producers include Clark, McAnally, Tony Award winner Robert Horn, three-time Tony Award winner stage director Jack O’Brien, David Zelon, and Sandra R. Berman. Horn, who provided the book for the stage version will write the film’s screenplay.

“Since the early workshops, we have been huge fans of Shucked, Berman, Fox and Moldo tell Deadline. “With a hilarious book and incredible music, we weren’t surprised by its success on Broadway. This is a movie about community building, told through laughter, music, and of course corn. We are thrilled to be able to join the original creative team behind the musical and help bring this story to audiences around the world as a motion picture on the big screen.”

Collectively, Clark and McAnally have earned three Grammy Awards and 18 Grammy nominations. The stage production featured choreography by Sarah O’Gleby, music supervision, music direction, orchestrations, and arrangements by Tony Award nominee Jason Howland, and Little Big Town’s Jimi Westbrook and Opry Entertainment co-producing.

The musical comedy starred Kevin Cahoon (Fox’s Monarch, The Who’s Tommy) — who we spoke with after a performance in April 2023 — John Behlmann (Tootsie), Andrew Durand (Head Over Heels), Caroline Innerbichler (Frozen North American Tour), Ashley D. Kelley (Bella: An American Tall Tale), and Alex Newell (Once On This Island), and was endorsed by “official stalks-person” Reba McEntire.

Shucked is set to embark on a national tour beginning in the fall of 2024. The North American Tour will open in Nashville at TPAC’s Jackson Hall on November 5 with performances through November 10th. Currently nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, Shucked will celebrate the tour’s official opening night while in Music City, the home of its composers.
