The band is looking to replace guitarist Jeff Schroeder

The Smashing Pumpkins are holding an open audition for a new guitarist. The band shared the news on their social channels on Friday (Jan 5th).

“The Smashing Pumpkins are in search of an additional guitarist. The application process is open to anyone who might be interested. Applicants may submit a resume and related materials to spguitar@redlightmanagement.com,” the message reads.

Last fall, guitarist Jeff Schroeder announced his departure after 16 years with the band. Schroeder joined the group in 2007 while pursuing a doctorate in comparative literature at UCLA. The 49-year-old musician says he decided to leave the band to “explore a slightly different path,” although he didn’t provide further details.

At the time of his departure, Billy Corgan, James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin shared a statement, thanking Schroeder for his time with the group.

“We thank Jeff for his ceaseless dedication to the band and our great fans. Words can not express our gratitude and appreciation for the friend he is, and being there for SP in the good times and the tough times, too,” the state.

The Pumpkins will be back on the road this summer as they co-headline a UK and Ireland tour with Weezer. The two bands will kick off the trek on June 7th in Birmingham and play in London, Dublin, Glasgow and Manchester, before wrapping June 14th in Cardiff. Interpol and Tom Morello, among other guests, will also join select shows.

The band will also join Green Day, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas on the North American leg of The Saviors Tour. The North American run, produced by Live Nation, begins on July 29th at Nationals Park in Washington, DC, and makes 27 stops across North America in cities such as Toronto, ON; New York, NY; Chicago, IL; Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; Los Angeles, CA; Phoenix, AZ; San Francisco, CA and many more before wrapping up in San Diego, CA at Petco Park on September 28th.
