The Smile releases ‘Pana-Vision’

Latest track available now

โ€œPana-vision,โ€ borne on a hypnotic piano motif and mesmerizing refrain of โ€œlike a newborn child,” is the fourth and newest offering from The Smile — Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner. An animation by Sabrina Nichols of artwork from artist Stanley Donwood is also available to accompany the “Pana-vision” release.

Featured in this weekendโ€™s BBC broadcast of Peaky Blinders, โ€œPana-visionโ€ is now available across digital platforms via XL Recordings.

While โ€œPana-visionโ€ was likely identifiable to sonically savvy Peaky Blinders viewers as the latest from The Smile, the same episode premiered a sublime, Satie-esque instrumental piece that the keenest of ears might recognize as the work of Thom Yorke: โ€œThatโ€™s How Horses Areโ€ is now available as the second half of a single featuring the recently released โ€œ5:17.”

The unveiling of โ€œPana-visionโ€ follows last monthโ€™s release of โ€œSkrting on the Surface,โ€ accompanied by a video shot in 16mm black and white by BAFTA-winning writer/director Mark Jenkin in Cornwallโ€™s disused Rosevale Tin Mine, and hand developed in water from the mine. Previously, The Smile released โ€œThe Smokeโ€ and an accompanying remix by Dennis Bovell, as well as โ€œYou Will Never Work In Television Again,โ€ the trio’s debut single.
