Stevie Nicks teases new song that encourages Americans to vote

Nicks shares the lyrics to new song

Stevie Nicks has posted an impassioned personal statement to her social media accounts urging “friends, fans and women of America” to register to vote ahead of approaching voter registration deadlines (October 11th in some states) and to encourage others to do the same. The post includes a new poem that she has written titled “Get It Back” which she indicated will be recorded as a new song. She also posted a personal statement describing the poem’s inspiration and importance.

“I am sending you out a formal poem that I wrote not very long ago — and the next day — made it into a song. Recording a song out here on the road is not an easy task — so while I am doing that, I decided that you should have the words…” she shares on social media.

“At 74 years old, I can honestly say that I am worried about every one of you. Worried about health care, and just in general, worried about your God given rights. You must gather together now. You must register to vote as soon as you can (for many of you the deadline is tomorrow, October 11th) and you must vote! The disintegration of Roe v. Wade will change your life in an unfathomable way. You will not have control of what your beautiful dreams want for you. Your lives will be in the hands of governmental officials who do not know you and cannot possibly know what your future should be. You are the masters of your own ship. I watched what happened to women from 1966 (I was 18) to 1973 when I was 25 and two years away from joining Fleetwood Mac. Believe me when I tell you, you don’t want that world to come back — so… Please vote. And call everyone you know, and ask them to join you. Read the words to my song — I wrote it for you.”

The note and lyrics are captioned with further encouragement.

“Every single state has a stake in this year’s midterms, as all 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs,” she writes. “There are also 35 open Senate spots that are currently held by 14 Democrats and 21 Republicans. While some statewide races will likely have a larger impact on national politics than others, every single vote counts when it comes to electing state and local politicians. Last month, the 2x Rock and Roll Hall of Famer released her signature take on Buffalo Springfield’s timeless protest song “For What It’s Worth” as a digital download and streaming single. On the track, she’s joined by two longtime members of her touring band — backing vocalist Sharon Celani, who began recording and performing with Nicks in 1978 — and renown guitarist Waddy Wachtel — who’s connection to Nicks goes back to 1973, when he played on Buckingham Nicks.

Nicks is currently on tour through the end of the month. We were in attendance of Nicks’ Hollywood Bowl show last Monday before she was forced to postpone Phoenix due to a respiratory illness.
