Surviving Nirvana members reunite at FireAid

The reunion was the highlight of the all-star dual-venue event

The surviving members of Nirvana reunited for a surprise appearance at last night’s (Thurs, Jan 30th) FireAid in Los Angeles. Drummer Dave Grohl, bassist Krist Noveselic, and rhythm guitarist Pat Smear took the stage at the Kia Forum for rotating female singers stepping in for the late Kurt Cobain.

St. Vincent kicked things off with “Breed” from Nevermind, followed by Kim Gordon on “School” from Bleach, Joan Jett on “Territorial Pissings” from Nevermind, and Grohl’s 18-year-old daughter Violet on “All Apologies” from In Utero.

St. Vincent, Jett, Gordon, and pop singer Lorde previously fronted a three-fourths reunion when Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

The all-star concert featured Alanis Morissette, Anderson Paak, Dawes, Graham Nash, Green Day, John Fogerty, Joni Mitchell, No Doubt, P!nk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stephen Stills, Stevie Nicks, and The Black Crowes at the Kia Forum. Billie Eilish, Earth, Wind & Fire, Gracie Abrams, Jelly Roll, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Lil Baby, Olivia Rodrigo, Peso Pluma, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Sting, and Tate McRae performed at the nearby Intuit Dome.

The one-night-only dual concert event raised money to rebuild communities devastated by wildfires and support efforts to prevent future fire disasters throughout Southern California. Contributions made to FireAid will be distributed under the advisement of the Annenberg Foundation, for short-term relief efforts and long-term initiatives to prevent future fire disasters. The Annenberg Foundation, with decades of philanthropic leadership in our community, including rapid response, will help coordinate a team to direct funds for the greatest impact. All proceeds from the FireAid benefit concert at Intuit Dome and Kia Forum will go directly to the event’s designated beneficiaries, as the LA Clippers covered the millions in expenses associated with the event.

FireAid was broadcast and streamed live across an impressive range of platforms, including Amazon Music/Prime Video, Apple Music, the AppleTV app, Disney+/Hulu, Facebook/Instagram, iHeartRadio, KTLA+, Max, Netflix/Tudum, Paramount+, Peacock/NBC News Now, SiriusXM’s exclusive Life With John Mayer channel, SoundCloud, Veeps, and YouTube. Additionally, select AMC Theatre locations hosted screenings of the event. As the national audio partner, iHeartRadio leveraged its vast network of over 860 radio stations, digital platforms, and the iHeartRadio app to amplify the initiative and connect audiences nationwide.

The benefit concert was produced by Shelli, Irving, and the Azoff family, in conjunction with Live Nation and AEG Presents.
