The new deal marks a new creative chapter for the band
Grammy Award-winning alt-rock band Switchfoot signs a record deal with modern music company By Design, in partnership with BMG.
For more than two decades, Switchfoot has shaped the landscape of alternative rock with songs that explore hope, doubt, purpose and the tension between brokenness and beauty. Their partnership with By Design marks a new creative chapter for the band – one rooted in artistic freedom, deeper storytelling and a shared desire to create music that moves culture forward. With new music on the horizon, Switchfoot steps into this next season with a fresh vision. The band will work closely with By Design and BMG to expand their global reach, activate new audiences and build on their legacy of impact.
“It’s been an incredible journey for this band of brothers, and yet it feels like we’re just getting started,” shares Jon Foreman of Switchfoot. “When we met the team at By Design, we found a common ground on purpose, creativity and the belief that music can change the world. This new partnership gives us fresh wind in our sails, and we can’t wait for what’s ahead.”
“We’ve been fans of Switchfoot not just for their music, but for who they are – their integrity, their generosity and their heart for people,” adds By Design co-founder, Jeremy Holley. “Jon is a poet for our generation, giving voice to both the ache and the hope of the human condition. From our first conversations, it was clear that our missions align. We’re excited to walk with them into this next season of creativity and impact.”
For By Design, welcoming Switchfoot represents the convergence of its core mission: elevating artists and forming creators. Switchfoot’s philanthropic work and enduring global fanbase align with the kind of cultural influence By Design exists to nurture – both through the label’s intentional, artist-first development approach and through Blueprint’s mentorship-driven investment in the next generation of creators.
Switchfoot joins By Design’s genre-spanning roster that includes chart-topping country artist Frankie Ballard, pop-folk storyteller Zoe Levert, rising singer-songwriter Alex Jude and sister-duo Barlow. The label operates in partnership with BMG for global distribution, label services, joint artist signings and co-investment catalog acquisition strategy.
By Design announced its launch, under the leadership of longtime friends Josh Bailey, Jeremy Holley, Rod Riley and Josh Thompson, exclusively with Billboard. The label is part of a larger ecosystem striving to best serve creatives: By Design, the record label and music publisher; Archetype Music, a music rights acquisitions company; and Blueprint, a nonprofit equipping creators.
