The Eras Tour has grossed more than $1 billion in 2023

Taylor Swift holds the all-time touring record with her massive The Eras Tour. Pollstar projects that the trek has grossed $1.039 billion, making it the single highest-grossing tour of all time and the first to cross the ten-digit threshold. Pollstar’s numbers are based on its box office reports and extensive research including “ticket prices in each market, record capacities at each venue and comparable tour data.”

The feat was accomplished after performing 60 shows that began in March in Glendale, Arizona, and wrapped last month in Buenos Aires, Argentina. During that time, she sold 4.3 million tickets averaging $238.95 each, bringing each show’s average gross to $17.32 million.

Pollstar projects the 2024 leg, which will feature European stops and a return to North America for 17 dates in the fall, will also gross $1 billion, bringing the total to more than $2 billion when it wraps in November 2024. According to Variety, the numbers are only projections after Swift’s management confirms they will not release official tallies in any capacity.

The 33-year-old global superstar set record after record, including six sold-out nights at LA’s SoFi Stadium, the highest three-day attendance totals at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium and Dallas’ AT&T Stadium, and single-day records at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium, Pittsburgh Acrisure Stadium and Seattle’s Lumen Field.

Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, Ed Sheeran’s Divide Tour and U2’s 360 Tour round out the top four world-record-breaking tours.

The Los Angeles shows were released as Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, which raked in more than $178 million domestically and $248.95 million globally to land the biggest debut of all time for a concert film when it opened theatrically in October. The film spans more than two and a half hours and features over three dozen songs, omitting several from the three-and-a-half-hour live show. An extended version is set to drop this month on digital services.

The country-turned-pop star is also being credited with raising the United States economy with The Eras Tour. The Philadelphia Federal Reserve and Cincinnati officials share that Swift’s 53-date US trek has helped raise the economy with tourism.

Bloomberg also crowns Swift a billionaire due to the tour and her album re-recordings, the first artist to be minted the status solely on her musical accomplishments. While specific numbers are unclear, Bloomberg’s analysis is based on assets and earnings that “could be confirmed or traced from publicly disclosed figures.” These include the estimated value of her music catalog, five homes, earnings from streaming deals, music sales, concert tickets and merchandise, all after expenses and taxes have been deducted.

This week, Time magazine named Swift their 2023 Person of the Year due to her finding a way to “transcend borders and be a source of light.”
