The band’s third album gets the deluxe treatment this fall
The Black Crowes have collected the Amorica era recordings from 1992-1994 into a new box set, set for release on November 14th via American Recordings. The reissue has been overseen by band founders and brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, along with acclaimed producer and friend of the Crowes, George Drakoulias.
The reissue will be available in single CD, 2 LP, 3 CD, and 5 LP configurations, with bundled and signed editions available through the band’s website.
The sets feature a newly remastered Amorica, sourced from the original quarter-inch production master tapes, with three Amorica-era bonus tracks.
Also included is Tallest, stories behind the lost/scrapped album Tall, and the mish-mashed Lost Crowes version of Tall. With guidance from Rich Robinson, George Drakoulias, and Martin Pradler, performed new mixes of the Tall era recordings from the January 1994 Conway sessions two-inch 24-track multis.
The set concludes with seven songs recorded at Kingsway Studios in New Orleans, LA in October 1992. All songs are previously unreleased.
Amorica is the band’s third album, released in November 1994. While not as commercially successful as their first two projects, Amorica is often considered a critical high point for the band, showcasing a more diverse and mature sound. The album moves away from the more straightforward boogie rock of their earlier work, incorporating a more jam-oriented, blues-heavy, and introspective style.
The original album cover, which featured a photograph from a 1976 Hustler magazine, was controversial and led to the release of an alternative, censored cover in some markets. Despite the mixed commercial results, the album has gained a reputation over time as a fan favorite and a definitive work in the band’s discography.
