Jack White, W.I.T.C.H., Dinosaur Jr. & Mudhoney will be featured

Third Man Records has unveiled the contents of Vault Package 60: Third Man Live, a limited edition vinyl package highlighting live recordings from Third Man venues in Nashville, Detroit, and London by a diverse span of artists including Jack White, W.I.T.C.H., Dinosaur Jr., and Mudhoney. Subscriptions to receive Vault No. 60: Third Man Live are available now through April 30th at midnight CT, exclusively via the Third Man website.

The Vault has been a prime outlet for Third Man Records to share otherwise overlooked live performances. To celebrate the 60th Vault package, Third Man is highlighting live recordings drawn from three Third Man venues – the Blue Room in Nashville, the Blue Stage in Detroit, and the Blue Basement in London – showcasing the energy, verve, and spirit that is imbued in everything Third Man has done for more than two decades.

All discs included in the package will be pressed on 180-gram vinyl in a unique, blue and white mix dubbed “skycloud,” recalling the specific hue of paint that graces the walls of all three Third Man venues. Collected in a sharp slipcase, the three LPs and bonus seven-inch will be housed in psychedelic, marbleized inner sleeves in custom jackets inspired by their original show posters, with Sophy Hollington’s Dinosaur Jr. imagery being of particular delight. As an extra treat, the set includes a fresh new Third Man bumper sticker exhorting all to “Support Live Music.” Also, ten lucky Vault packages will receive a copy of Jack White’s coveted “The World’s Fastest Record” seven-inch, stashed long ago in the Third Man warehouse and promptly forgotten about, randomly inserted inside.

As the first show of his Lazaretto Tour of 2014, Jack White’s appearance at the Blue Room in Nashville on April 19, 2014, is best remembered for the recording and release of a seven-inch single in three hours known as “The World’s Fastest Record.” Beyond that, the entire gig features live debuts of such fan favorites as “High Ball Stepper,” “Lazaretto,” and “Would You Fight For My Love?” alongside reimagined White Stripes classics like “Hotel Yorba” and “Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground.”

W.I.T.C.H. (We Intend To Cause Havoc) has enraptured fans since its beginnings in the early 1970s. With influences as wide as Black Sabbath, James Brown, and the Rolling Stones, all infused with African rhythms and bush village songs, the band’s revolutionary sound would be the foundation for a genre named “Zamrock,” but despite being praised as “The Beatles of Zambia,” the W.I.T.C.H. records were all but impossible to find outside of Africa. Thanks to the efforts of dedicated, gospel-spreading fans, W.I.T.C.H. has recently enjoyed worldwide recognition of their work, and on October 5, 2022, the band eviscerated a standing-room-only crowd on the Blue Stage in Detroit – a vibrant celebration of life through music, all joyous and electric and teeming with the excitement of art connecting with its audience.

On October 17, 2022, Dinosaur Jr. blew the roof off the tiny, 60-person capacity Blue Basement in London with an iconic, inimitable set heavy on classics like “Freak Scene” and “Feel The Pain,” pinned alongside certified gems like “Does It Float” and “No Bones.” With a distortion pedal set to “stun,” J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph are stronger than ever on this recording, firing on all cylinders and laying claim that decades into their career, they easily lay waste to bands half their age. Furthermore, this record marks the first official recording released from the Blue Basement.

To push it all over the top, Vault No. 60: Third Man Live includes a bonus seven-inch from Mudhoney and their barn-burning night in the Nashville Blue Room on September 26, 2013. The three-song assault of punk classics – affectionately dubbed “the hardcore encore” – sees the band laying waste to the sold-out house with typically ferocious takes on Fang’s “The Money Will Roll Right In,” The Dicks’ “Hate The Police,” and Black Flag’s “Fix Me.”
