Film drops Oct 4th
RLJE Films (formerly Image Entertainment) and Shudder will bring This is GWAR to Blu-ray and DVD on October 4th. The documentary was directed by Scott Barber and was an Audience Award Winner for Best Feature at Nighstream 2021 and Official Selection of the 2021 Fantastic Fest.
The powerful story of the most iconic heavy metal/art collective/monster band in the universe, as told by the humans who have fought to keep it alive for over 30 years. The feature documentary includes interviews with members of GWAR, both past and present, as well as other artists including Weird Al Yankovic, Thomas Lennon, Alex Winter, Bam Margera, and Ethan Embry, also including never before seen footage of legendary GWAR frontman Dave Brockie.
“It was a joke and we just kept going with it,” shares vocalist Kim Dylla. “It’s like joke’s on everyone else now 30 years later, you know. It’s a joke with no punchline.”
The two hour film was released to Shudder’s online streaming service last year.
In June, the group released The New Dark Ages which tells the story of the Scumdogs having a party in the ashes.
“These are the songs for a New Dark Age, when men live by the dimming light of technology destined to betray them as they become more machine than human,” the band shares. “Listen, as we have a rock and roll orgy in the ruins of the world to celebrate humanity’s descent into an age of darkness, disease, ignorance, and death.”
