A Thousand Horses release ‘Never Liked The Rain’ video

Stormy ballad featured on Broken Heartland album

Platinum-selling hitmakers A Thousand Horses capture a flood of heartbreak in their new video for “Never Liked The Rain,” bringing to life a bluesy country-rock ballad with stormy vocals and a sound to match.

Out now and directed by Jimmy Fisco, the black-and-white clip takes place in a desolate, no-frills barroom, with the band performing for those looking only to drown their sorrows – literally. While frontman Michael Hobby pours out his soul, the heavens pour down, and there’s no shelter in sight, the video is a continuation of the story from the “Broken Heartland” music video of the story of a once-thriving relationship that’s steadily gone downhill.

“We wanted to capture the feeling of isolation and loneliness in the music video for ‘Never Liked The Rain’ to portray the emotions our main character is feeling as told through the lyrics of the song,” says bandmember Bill Satcher. “The setting is a smaller dive bar than the one in the preceding video for ‘Broken Heartland’ because we wanted to show how the walls are beginning to close in around him as we continue his story. The scattered split screen and black and white treatment is also used to symbolize the character’s descent into heartbreak and the bleak reality set out before him as he faces that pain down.”

Satcher continues, “A common theme on the album and in this song is accepting the journey through heartache and hard times and finally reaching the other side to meet the brighter days ahead. Our good friend, actor Chris Mason, and the director Jimmy Fisco did a phenomenal job helping us bring our vision from the song to the screen.”

Co-written by Bill Satcher, Michael Hobby, and Lee Thomas Miller, “Never Liked The Rain” is part of the band’s just-released studio album, Broken Heartland, which came out in August. Produced by Grammy Award-winner Dave Cobb and the band themselves on two of the tracks, the album features a muscular mix of roadhouse rock & roll, country drawl and southern soul.

A Thousand Horses broke out in 2015 with their rocket-propelled debut single, “Smoke,” becoming the first country group of the decade to hit No. 1 with their debut track. Since then, they’ve continued to charge ahead with constant touring, high-profile performances, and multiple song releases.

Along with “Never Liked the Rain,” previous releases from Broken Heartland include “When I Hear Your Name,” “Another Mile,” and the groove-heavy title track, and the band will continue performing select tour dates through the end of the year.
