Band shares new projects are forthcoming

Walk the Moon has announced that it’s going into hibernation after 18 years together. The band shared the news in an 11 minute video explaining their decision on social media on Friday (July 14th).

“The time has come for us to take a good, long break from touring and making records together. When we do reconvene, that will be a glorious day. And the truth is, we don’t know when that’s gonna be,” frontman and keyboardist Nicholas Petricca says.

He continues, “This summer will mark 18 years since I started the band that would change its name to Walk the Moon — half my life ago. For half of my life, this band has been the main focus of my creative love and energy… Nothing else on Earth has received more hours of our love and attention than this indie, alt-pop, rock and roll band… It is an enormous act of love to carefully lift something like this from the center of our lives and place it gently to the side, out of focus, and let it rest for a moment. It’s a choice we make powerfully, to follow our truth, to make space for new creations, for family, to serve our well-being, and in the long run, even serve the well-being of Walk the Moon, like hibernation to hopefully come back one day stronger than before.”

Petricca unveils that new Walk the Moon music and individual projects are on the way, and the group will be livestreaming their final show of the band’s 10th Anniversary Tour that started last fall in celebration of their self-titled debut. Details on the livestream are forthcoming. On the trek, the group performs their first album in its entirety along with special acoustic performances and some of their greatest hits.

Hailing from Cincinnati, Walk The Moon consists of Petricca, Eli Maiman on guitar and Sean Waugaman on drums. In 2015, the band catapulted to stardom when their hit single “Shut Up and Dance,” which is included on their RIAA Platinum album Talking is Hard, became a multi-Platinum global smash that peaked at No. 1 on the alternative, hot AC, and AC charts, went to No. 2 at Top 40 radio, No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, and broke the record for consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs chart. The band is best known for the cult classic “Anna Sun.”
