Yolanda Adams releases ‘Hero is Born’

The new holiday single is from her Sunny Days

Four-time Grammy winner and the consensus Queen of Contemporary Gospel, Yolanda Adams, has blessed the holiday season with a Christmas re-release of her standout record, “Hero Is Born,” via Epic Records. The critically acclaimed gospel song is found on Ms. Adams’s 2024 studio album, Sunny Days, which has garnered Grammy recognition as a nominee for Best Gospel Album at the upcoming 68th Grammy Awards.

The re-release comes just ahead of Adams’s Broadway debut. The gospel legend will play a prominent role in Hell’s Kitchen, the theater production based on R&B legend Alicia Keys’s life. She’s also featured in “Hell’s Kitchen’s A Merry Little Christmas,” which includes vocals by cast members Amanda Reid, Phillip Johnson Richardson, and Jessica Vosk.

Sunny Days, Adams’s 14th album, was released last year and represented the end of a 13-year hiatus from releasing albums, following 2011’s Becoming. The sacred and secular worlds that Ms. Adams has blessed with her epic catalog over the years brimmed collectively with excitement, and was rewarded with the result of a passionate, years-long process that Adams likened to her own growth as a person.

“Hero is Born,” one of the songs that Adams and her producers fine-tuned during their meticulous recording process, is an unmistakable ode to the most wonderful time of the year. “My Hero is born, my Hero is born / Precious gift born on Christmas Day / Sent as a gift to my faith / You are my saving grace,” she sings on the song’s pre-chorus.

This holiday season is set to be rewarding in more ways than one for the gospel legend, who will alternate playing the role of Ms. Liza with Tony winner Kecia Lewis before fully taking over the role starting December 16th.
