The album features “You Love Who You Love”
Zara Larsson has released the track listing for her forthcomingย Venus album. The 12-song project will be released on February 9th via Sommer House/Epic Records and contains her latest single, “You Love Who You Love.”
Venus’ goddess energy is exemplified in โYou Love Who You Love,โ where Zara summons the Scandi pop-rock anthems of Max Martin in this cautionary tale on toxic relationships. Produced by rising duo MTHR and penned with Larssonโs frequent collaborator MNEK, Zara recalls that โwe started writing over pride, and began talking about how amazing it is that anyone can love anyone – but that doesnโt mean you always should! Weโve all had that friend, or been that friend, who keeps going back to someone bad for them, and โYou Love Who You Loveโ is saying enough is enough.โ
This spring, Larsson will embark on The Venus Tour throughout Europe. The trek marks her first run of global headline shows since the pandemic. North American dates are expected to be announced soon.
With her elevated sound, eclectic style and unifying vision, Larsson is one of modern popโs most essential stars. Itโs an evolution she takes to the next level on Venus, which mixes the mythic and the personal in its exploration of modern love: whether with a partner (โYou Love Who You Loveโ), family (โOn My Loveโ), your craft (โEnd Of Timeโ) or with yourself (โCanโt Tame Herโ), itโs Zaraโs most dynamic and fully-realized work to-date. The project was conceived by Zara with a diverse but focused team of collaborators, which proved essential to the breadth of the record and the goal of representing all sides of herself. The results are pure, unexpected chemistry: the classic-songwriting tradition of Rick Nowells (Madonna, Lana Del Rey) paired with the maximalist beats of Danja (Britneyโs Blackout), or long-time London ally MNEK coupled up with Swedish duo MTHR on โYou Love Who You Love.โ
Now a decade into her recording career, Larsson has the feel of an artist only growing in power. She made headlines around the world last year in a trailblazing deal that saw her take control of her entire recording catalog, with Venus the first release in a new partnership between Sony Music and Larssonโs own Sommer House label. Celebrating the many shades of love by owning all sides of her sound and her art, as Zara herself puts it: โItโs a little bit all over the place, but thatโs honestly just very me!โ A millions-selling mainstream artist with enduring, subversive appeal, Venusโ vulnerability is Zara Larssonโs latest strength: a pop album fit for a goddess but graced with a human touch.
