Nashville honky tonks to play beloved Tom Petty tracks in honor of the June 21st release of a country tribute album

Big Machine Label Group announces Nashville’s downtown will transform this weekend into Petty Country, USA to honor the lasting legacy of Tom Petty and the historic release of Petty Country: A Country Celebration of Tom Petty, due Friday, June 21st. Beginning at midnight on June 21st through Sunday, June 23rd, dozens of bars and honky tonks around Broadway will host hour-long “Petty Power Hours,” give away exclusive merchandise, and more.

The activation will kick off at midnight on June 21st as the dozens of participating bars collectively play Petty’s classic hit “American Girl” as the clock strikes 12. Participating bars include Rippy’s, Ole Red, Luke Bryan’s 32 Bridge, Bootleggers, Miranda Lambert’s Casa Rosa, Tin Roof Broadway, Honky Tonk Central, Lainey Wilson’s Bell Bottoms Up, Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Rooftop Bar, Tequila Cowboy, Acme Feed & Seed, Whiskey River Saloon, DraftKings Sports & Social Nashville, Big Machine Distillery, Whiskey Bent Saloon, Tootsies Orchid Lounge, Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N’ Roll Steakhouse, WannaB’s Karaoke Bar, Lucky Bastard Saloon and more.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers was one of the most singular and distinctly American bands. Beyond the West Coast folk-rock jangle, San Francisco psychedelia, and a blast of the British invasion, the South’s influence was a constant throughout Petty’s songwriting in his words, truths, and especially his defiance and dignity. Petty Country: A Country Celebration of Tom Petty draws on all the aspects and flavors of the Gainesville-raised icon’s roots and leans into the genre that defines the region, bringing the top talent in country and Americana music together to create a 20-song tribute to Petty’s dynamic musical legacy.

Executive produced by Big Machine founder Scott Borchetta, George Drakoulias (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Black Crowes) and Randall Poster (Wes Anderson, Skyfall) with the oversite of the late icon’s daughter, Adria Petty, the collection pulls from across various realms and seasons of music to create a full picture of Petty’s impressive catalog. Artists lending their talents to the project include Dierks Bentley, Brothers Osborne, Luke Combs, Steve Earle, Wynonna Judd, Lady A, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Carly Pearce, Thomas Rhett, George Strait, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson and many more.
