Trio is working on new music

Multi-instrumentalist Stevie Woodward has joined Runaway June as their new lead vocalist. The trio shared the news via social media today (Thurs, Apr 7th).

“Y’all welcome Stevie… we can’t wait until y’all fall in love with her as much as we have!! It’s been so hard to keep it a secret, but we can’t wait to share the music we’ve been working on!!! Get ready for some harmonies and dueling solos!!! We’ll see you on the road soon!!!!” they write.

Born in Orlando Florida, Woodward moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at an early age and began writing music at age five. She began teaching herself the guitar at age 10 and started playing regularly throughout the coast before moving to Nashville when she was 18 to pursue songwriting. Woodward has opened for Kip Moore, Scotty McCreery, Poison’s Bret Michaels, and many others. Her influences include Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt and Led Zeppelin.

The news comes a little more than a month after original lead vocalist Naomi Cooke Johnson announced her departure after seven years to pursue a solo career. Cooke Johnson is the second original member to leave the group following the May 2020 departure of founding member Hannah Mulholland. Vocalist and violinist Natalie Stovall replaced Mulholland who moved to Los Angeles to focus on art design.

The new version will feature Woodward on lead vocals, guitar, harmonica and piano, Stovall on fiddle, guitar and vocals, and original member Jennifer Wayne on vocals and guitar.

Since Cooke, Mulholland and Wayne formed Runaway June seven years ago, the trio have scored major tours with some of the biggest names and icons in music including supporting Carrie Underwood on the Cry Pretty Tour 360 and Luke Bryan’s Proud To Be Right Here Tour, to name a few.
