U2 has officially joined TikTok with their new ballad, “Your Song Saved My Life,” featuring a 30 second lyric video snippet. The track appears as the credits roll on the upcoming animated film, Sing 2, and its soundtrack. The full audio will be released to all digital outlets on Wednesday (November 3rd) via Interscope Records.
The Universal/Illumination animated film — which stars Bono in his animated film debut as reclusive rock star Clay Calloway — opens in theaters on December 22nd with its soundtrack due December 17th. The band lent several of its songs to the film, including a version of “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” that fellow star Scarlett Johansson sings acoustically with a guitar.
“The band recorded this amazing U2 song,” the film’s writer and director Garth Jennings tells Entertainment Weekly. “It’s just full of so much emotion and heart and literally did exactly what he said in that first phone call. It just says, ‘Okay, here’s how we want your audience to feel as they leave the cinema.'”
Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Taron Egerton, Tori Kelly, Nick Kroll, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Pharrell Williams, Nick Offerman, Letitia Wright, Eric Andre, and Chelsea Peretti also lend their voices as characters in the film to the 2016 predecessor, Sing.
In Sing 2, the ever-optimistic koala, Buster Moon, and his all-star cast of performers prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet, all in the glittering entertainment capital of the world. There’s just one hitch: They first have to persuade the world’s most reclusive rock star, Clay Calloway, to join them.
All of U2’s music is now part of TikTok. Earlier this week, the band teased the track by asking “What song saved your life?” and has been updating its socials with new photos. Fans are anxiously awaiting a new album from the band, which would be their first since 2017’s Songs of Experience.
