The song appears on the duo’s upcoming 13th studio album
The Black Keys have released the loose and groovy “The Night Before” via Easy Eye Sound/Warner Records. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney wrote the tune with Grammy Award-winning songwriter Daniel Tashian. The resulting track is airy and elastic, with a sticky melody made all the more infectious by Auerbach’s soulful delivery and Carney’s crisp and funky beat.
“It’s so groove-based,” Auerbach says. “‘The Night Before’ started with a chord progression that Daniel and I came up with and the rest just fell out. It was really collaborative and all came together in about 30 minutes.”
“We’ve never really worked with songwriters like that in Nashville,” Carney adds. “It’s crazy because Daniel was one of the first people I met when I moved to town over a decade ago. But we pushed ourselves to bring in some new co-writers, and we really tapped into something cool with Daniel. We’re finishing up the album now and plan to release more tracks leading into the tour.”
The Black Keys will release their 13th studio album No Rain, No Flowers via Easy Eye Sound/Warner Records later this year. No Rain, No Flowers is an especially personal project for the Black Keys, who were forced to cancel their 2024 North American International Players Tour following an emotional dispute with their former management company.
The duo will kick off the first leg of the No Rain, No Flowers Tour on May 23rd in Oklahoma and continue through over a dozen iconic venues including Red Rocks Amphitheatre and The Greek Theatre before returning to Europe in July.
