The global superstar reaches a new streaming milestone
Today (Sun, Aug 31st), The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” became the first song to hit five billion streams on Spotify.
“Blinding Lights” is one of The Weeknd’s 28 songs in Spotify’s illustrious Billions Club, a feat that has been extended by three since January. The Weeknd currently holds the most songs in the Billions Club of any artist.
“Blinding Lights” is one of only five songs to have crossed the four billion streams mark, with “Starboy,” his chart-topping Daft Punk collab for 2016, also hitting the threshold.
Last December, he performed in Spotify’s first-ever Billions Club: Live concert to celebrate Spotify’s most prestigious program, encompassing the flagship playlist, artist plaques, a video series, and now, live concerts and long-form videos.
The global R&B superstar is a in a league of his own with “Blinding Lights,” “Starboy,” “Die For You,” “The Hills,” “Save Your Tears,” “Call Out My Name,” “Can’t Feel My Face,” “I Feel It Coming,” “Earned It,” “Save Your Tears (Ariana Grande Remix),” “Creepin’” with 21 Savage, “One of the Girls” with Jennie and Lily Rose Depp, “Stargirl Interlude,” “I Was Never There,” “Often,” “Heartless,” “After Hours,” “Or Nah” with Ty Dolla, Wiz Khalifa & DJ Mustard, “Die For You” with Ariana Grande, “Lost in the Fire” with Gaffelstein, “Love Me Harder” with Ariana Grande, “Moth to a Flame” with Swedish House Mafia, “Popular” with Playboi Carti & Madonna, and “Pray for Me” with Kendrick Lamar.
The news arrives alongside an extensive reissue campaign celebrating his 2015 album Beauty Behind the Madness with a new slate of releases that includes vinyl and picture disc versions, along with three seven-inch singles via XO/Republic Records.
