Bon Jovi discusses his career milestones, vocal challenges & new Hulu documentary

ABC News Studios has announced a one-hour special featuring Good Morning America co-anchor Michael Strahan’s exclusive sit-down interview with legendary rock icon Jon Bon Jovi. Michael Strahan x Jon Bon Jovi: Halfway There premiers Sunday, April 28th at 10 pm EDT on ABC, streaming next day on Hulu.

In the candid discussion, Bon Jovi reflects on his journey to fronting one of the most successful bands of all time and the challenges he and the band faced along the way. Bon Jovi gives Strahan an honest assessment of his health after a near career-ending vocal cord injury and talks about the band’s separation from long-time guitarist Richie Sambora. Delving into his and the band’s early years, he shares intimate anecdotes about his upbringing in New Jersey, a place that would later serve as the backdrop for many of his iconic songs, and reflects on the unwavering support he received from his parents, his wife of 35 years, his family and fans. Additionally, the special features a behind-the-scenes look at the SXSW premiere of the band’s new Hulu documentary Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, a four-part celebration as the band gets ready to celebrate its 40th anniversary and looks at what to expect from the band in the future.

Jon will be a guest mentor on season 22 of ABC’s American Idol on Sunday, May 19th. Jon will mentor the top three contestants before the winner is unveiled in front of a live audience.

The band will release its 16th studio album, Forever, on June 7th via Island Records, featuring the first single “Legendary.”

In January, the band released three new 40th anniversary editions of its self-titled album via Island/UMR. The releases officially kick off the Bon Jovi 40 campaign and are accompanied by various 1984-era merchandise and a 40th anniversary celebration trailer.

Last fall, the band teamed with Hasbro for a Bon Jovi-branded version of Monopoly. The Hasbro-produced game includes six collectible tokens — 40th Anniversary Heart & Dagger logo, The Have a Nice Day Smirk Face, The Diamond Superman Logo, the band’s home state of New Jersey, the classic Skull logo, and Jon Bon Jovi’s Famous Acoustic Guitar. A new “Legendary” edition has since been released.

This spring, NECA will release a seven-inch Jon Bon Jovi action figure. The posable collectible will feature Jon from the Slippery When Wet era complete with guitar and microphone.

Jon Bon Jovi and his band are working on their latest venture, the spring 2024 opening of JBJ’s Nashville located along Nashville’s Lower Broadway honky-tonk bar district. Positioned to stand out amid traditional bars on the strip, JBJ’s will tower as the tallest and second largest bar by square footage, boasting 37,000 square feet dedicated to a rock ‘n’ roll revolution along with carrying forward the roots of country music from Nashville’s storied history.
