The band’s new album, Gravity Stairs, is due on May 31st
Multi-platinum-selling rock band Crowded House has released its new single “Teenage Summer” off the eighth studio album Gravity Stairs which will be released May 31st via BMG. The band also announced the 2024 North American headlining Gravity Stairs Tour. The tour kicks off August 29th in St. Augustine, Florida with additional dates to be announced soon.
Fan club members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Friday, April 12th at 10 am local time through Thursday, April 18th at 10 pm local time. Tickets will be available to the general public on Friday, April 19th at 10 am local time.
Produced by the band with Steven Schram (Paul Kelly, San Cisco), Gravity Stairs shows Crowded House’s current incarnation featuring Neil Finn, Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom, Elroy Finn, and Liam Finn.
The new single, played on stage in recent shows and formerly known as “Life’s Imitation” is now curiously renamed “Teenage Summer.” As Neil explains, “My grandson Manaia told me ‘Teenage Summer’ was one of his favorite songs. He’d identified the peak moment in the song and a light went on. It’s that simple, the children must be heard.”
Gravity Stairs is Crowded House’s first new release since 2021’s Dreamers Are Waiting and eighth overall. Produced by the band with Steven Schram, the album shows Crowded House in its current incarnation of Neil Finn, Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom, and Finn’s sons Elroy and Liam as sharp as ever, feeling musically adventurous, and still capable of reaching the staggering highs that have made them an international favorite. It’s the act of climbing those figurative “gravity stairs,” inspired by a heavy stone staircase near where Finn vacations, that he likens to his own mindset as a creator.
“It’s a metaphor for getting a little older and becoming aware of your own mortality, your own physicality,” Finn says. “Things are getting a little harder, and there’s more determination needed to get to the top, but there’s still the same compulsion to climb them.”
Featuring 11 new songs, the album showcases the band’s musical evolution and commitment to delivering thought-provoking and inspiring sounds that resonate with fans old and new.
