The song is part of more than a dozen he’s released over the past two years
David Lee Roth has released “Scotch and Sofa” on YouTube. The song’s origins and musicians are unknown, but Roth has released nearly 20 tracks over the past two years, stemming from two separate recording sessions from 2007 and 2022.
Previously released songs include “Hi-Fashion Girl,” a song he recorded with guitarist John 5 in 2007. Five of those songs were released as part of The Roth Project in 2020, with the others dropping sporadically over the past two years, including “Somewhere Over The Rainbow Bar And Grill,” “Low-Rez Sunset,” “Giddy-Up!,” “Alligator Pants,” “Pointing At The Moon,” “Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then,” (a song about Van Halen), “Manda Bala,” and “The Shit That Killed Elvis.”
Roth and his solo band recorded 14 songs “live” in two hours on May 3, 2022, at Henson Recording Studio in Hollywood with producer Tom Syrowski. Several of those songs have also been released, including solo versions of Van Halen’s “Jump,” “Atomic Punk,” “Unchained,” “You Really Got Me,” “Dance The Night Away,” “Panama,” “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” and “Everybody Want Some.” His solo band features Al Estrada on guitar, Ryan Wheeler on bass, and Francis Valentino on drums.
It’s unclear if Roth plans to comprise an album of the songs or issue them to additional digital outlets.
Roth announced his retirement in late 2021 with a “career-ending residency” at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. However, “due to unforeseen circumstances related to COVID and out of an abundance of caution for those working and attending the shows,” the entire thing was canceled, even after the addition of new shows with Roth giving Fox News a cryptic tease about not actually retiring.
“There’s always a tomorrow for a singer. Not so much for a trombone player these days, okay?” he says. “How many times did Rocky retire? Seven. I think number three was my favorite. How many times did Rambo have to come out of retirement in order to make the sequel?”
Roth has not rescheduled the residency dates nor has he shared any future plans as of press time.
