Dolly Parton opens up to Kelly Clarkson about her newly cemented Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honor. The country megastar explains on The Kelly Clarkson Show, airing today (Thurs, Dec 1st) nationwide, why she was confused that the organization would honor a country star.

“I think more of myself as an eye sore than an icon,” she says with laughs. “When I got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — or when they talked about that — I didn’t realize it was more than just that. To me, I always thought about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame being for people to spend their life in rock music. We don’t see Led Zeppelin in the Country Music Hall of Fame. So when they first said that…I didn’t want to take votes from other people who spent their life [in rock music]. But then later I saw that it was for people also that have influenced other people. And I did say I would accept it gracefully and humbly and I did, and I was very honored.”

Parton also dishes on writing her rock and roll song, “Rockin’ It” for the ceremony, and teases her upcoming rock album.

“I wrote a song for the show about my whole experience about that. It’s called ‘Rockin’ It,’ because I’ve been rocking it. I grew up loving Elvis and Wildman Jerry Lee, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, they all had cast a spell on me Carl Perkins and them ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ had no place on the farm. That’s better than those Brogans I was wearing around the barn.”

In the episode, Parton also reminisces about hearing Whitney Houston’s rendition of “I Will Always Love You” for the first time on the radio while driving.

“I honestly thought I was going to wreck!” she states.

She also shares her emotional reaction to Clarkson’s own cover of the song at the Academy Of Country Music Awards, saying, “Whitney would have been so proud of you.” Dolly also performs an impromptu duet of the song with Kelly.

In an extra special Kellyoke duet, Clarkson and Parton perform a reimagined version of “9 To 5” with My Band Y’all!

Parton joins Clarkson for the entire hour where they also discuss Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas with Miley Cyrus, Jimmy Fallon and others, stories behind some of Parton’s greatest hits and more.
