The song is a message to those struggling with addiction

BBR Music Group/Wheelhouse Records singer/songwriter Elvie Shane continues to shed light on the struggles of his community and many others with the new track “Pill.” Draped in harrowing lyricism, written by Shane, Lee Starr, and Nick Columbia and produced by Oscar Charles, “Pill” delivers a love letter to those struggling with addiction that perfectly illustrates what it means to be affected by its all-encompassing path of destruction.

“This is a true and personal story that was inspired by me seeing a couple at a red light that looked like me 13 years ago,” Shane says in a recent press event. “The song is written from the perspective of my little brother writing me and her note. But I don’t know, the way that it affects my mom as well has always been pretty heavy on me. And the song is written from the perspective of my little brother writing me and her note, but I don’t know, the way that it affects my mom as well has always been pretty heavy on me. I didn’t realize how hard that time in my life was on my mother until we wrote this song and put it together and I let her hear it now. She can barely listen to it.”

He continues, “But I think my main goal with this song is just that, hopefully, like just one, even just one person hears it on a playlist or somebody sends it to them or something and they’re listening and it moves them in a way that when they hear the porch lights on, the doors are unlocked, you can go on home before it gets too dark. They’ll actually make that move and it’ll, but for me, it was [Eric Church’s song] ‘Homeboy.’ My dad sent me ‘Homeboy’ when it first came out and I was living on the wrong side of the tracks and in a college town, I was doing all the stuff and when I heard that song, I went home that weekend to visit just for a day, and I took my girlfriend and we were, we were about to leave, she was walking toward the car, and I was just like, I’m going to stay here. And my rehab at the time was climbing into a grain bin in the middle of July and shoveling beans at the local mill.”

Along with the track, Shane released a visualizer for “Pill,” welcoming those at any stage of recovery with the porch light on and the front door unlocked, reminding them it’s never too late to come back home.

Recently wrapping a busy summer on the road, Shane is set to perform in Lexington, KY tonight (Fri, Sept 29th), and Mount Airy, NC tomorrow (Sat, Sept 30th), along with a slot at Riverfront Revival next weekend in North Charleston, NC (Oct 7th). He next hits the road for a supporting stint with Kameron Marlowe this fall beginning in Los Angeles, CA (Oct 26th).
