Toto’s concert at the iconic LA bandshell will take place in September

Iconic rock group Toto just announced their first-ever headlining show at the Hollywood Bowl on September 1st as part of the famed venue’s 2024 concert series. Their debut performance at the Hollywood Bowl will be a special night for the band and all in attendance. Five-time Grammy winner Christopher Cross opens the evening for a night of hits.

Last week, Joseph Williams spoke exclusively with The Music Universe about that upcoming gig. And specifically, what it means to him and one other famous family member.

Toto’s lead singer discussed the news as the special guest for The Music Universe Podcast’s 200th episode during his sit-down with hosts Matt Bailey and Buddy Iahn. Williams mentioned the upcoming concert at the iconic venue in response to a question about his famous father, the Oscar-winning composer John Williams.

“He’s never come to see us play for various reasons,” the singer, whose latest solo album Denizen Tenant was released in 2021. “But this year, we’re doing the Hollywood Bowl in September, and that’s been [Dad’s] venue that he’s played at for 40 years or something like that.”

Indeed, the elder Williams has conducted live orchestrations of his famous film compositions at the Hollywood Bowl for the past several decades. The most recent concert was in July.

And when Joseph told his dad that they’d get to play “his” stage, he shares, “[Dad] said, ‘Oh I’ll come to that.’ Because he knows how to get in and out of there quickly.”

Packages for the show are available now via the Hollywood Bowl’s website.

This week, Toto launches its third consecutive tour with Journey with 30 appearances throughout the United States and Canada through the spring with an additional 14 additional headlining performances planned. A tour of Europe follows this summer with more headlining dates are to be announced.

Over the past decade, Toto has had a major renaissance in popularity like few bands at this point in their career. No individual statistic exhibits this more than achieving the milestone of over 3.4 billion streams at Spotify alone. The total plays of the band’s collected works across all platforms is now approaching five billion. Amongst the most listened-to recordings, “Africa” accounts for over one billion streams on Spotify alone. The song was recertified by the RIAA eight times platinum.

Individually and collectively, the band’s family tree can be heard on an astonishing five thousand albums that together amass a sales history of half a billion albums. Amongst these recordings, NARAS applauded the performances with hundreds of Grammy nominations. They are pop culture and are one of the few 70’s bands that have endured the changing trends and styles while continuing to remain relevant.
