Drummer has died

Foo Fighters are mourning the loss of drummer Taylor Hawkins. The band shared the news Friday (Mar 25th) night.

“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time,” an email statement by the band reads.

No word on the cause of death as of press time, but his body was discovered in a hotel north of Bogota, Colombia where the band was set to perform at Festival Estéreo Picnic in the city, but had canceled due to the tragedy.

Hawkins turned 50 years old on February 17th. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Story is developing.

The band was set to perform Sunday (Mar 27th) at Lollapalooza Brazil, but details surrounding that performance are unclear. They were also announced as a performer on the GRAMMYs early next month in Las Vegas.

In May, the band was set to embark on an extensive US tour, marking their most extensive North American run since the February 2021 release of the band’s 10th album, Medicine at Midnight via Roswell/RCA. Other 2022 dates include a headlining performance at Welcome to Rockville 2022 in Daytona Beach, FL running May 19-22, and Boston Calling from May 27-29th.

No word on the future of the tour or the band as of press time. Hawkins joined the group after the band recorded its 1997 album The Colour and the Shape when Dave Grohl recruited him from Alanis Morissette.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during its first year of eligibility last year. The group also released its first-ever horror film, Studio 666, last month.
