Singer, songwriter, producer, and electronic pop artist Goldroom (AKA Josh Legg) will release his debut full-length album — entitled West of the West — on September 23rd via Downtown Records. The album is now available for pre-order from all participating digital retailers. Those who pre-order digitally will receive an instant download of the new track, “Silhouette.”
“I’ve wanted to center Goldroom around honest songwriting, and in late 2015 things poured out in a way they just hadn’t before,” Goldroom says of the album, which showcases his vocals and musicianship. “Classic American songwriting is something I’ve tried hard to honor and push forward. Although I make electronic-based music, I think of this as Americana at its emotional core. I was aching to write something more simple and earnest, devoid of cynicism,” Goldroom says of “Silhouette” which pays homage to Daft Punk, Phoenix, and Alan Braxe.
The album’s title is inspired by Teddy Roosevelt, who referred to California as “West of the West” during his presidency. “It’s always resonated with me because it feels like a destination past the Wild West — an oasis where anything is possible,” says the Los Angeles-based Goldroom. “To me, West of the West is also the Pacific Ocean, where so much of my life and inspiration lies.”
This fall Goldroom will partner with Autograf for a major 30+ date live co-headline tour of North America including stops in New York’s Terminal 5, Los Angeles’ The Novo, San Francisco’s The Fox, among others.
Ticket pre-sales are underway. Tickets go on sale to the general public starting Friday, July 15th.
Autograf, who released their EP Future Soup earlier this year following the success of singles ‘Dream’ and ‘Metaphysical,’ are known for melodic and kaleidoscopic hook laden electronica, something which Goldroom admires greatly about the group: “Of all of the artists that I’ve gotten to play shows with over the last handful of years, Autograf has struck me as one of the most unwilling to conform to EDM stereotypes. I’ve always greatly respected Autograf for their desire to push boundaries, both in their productions and in their live playing.”
Autograf notes a similar sentiment towards Goldroom, adding, “It seems more and more dance acts are trying to go “live” these days, but Goldroom has been doing it long before everyone else. Josh is a true pioneer that’s been bridging the gap between live electronica and indie rock for many years. Seeing his completely live band is a true inspiration, we couldn’t be more excited to go on tour with him.”
The Boston-bred Legg began making music under the name Goldroom in 2011. He has released several EPs (Angeles, Embrace, and It’s Like You Never Went Away) and singles (“Fifteen,” “Sweetness Alive,” “Only You Can Show Me,” “Embrace,” and “Till Sunrise”), plus remixes for such artists as Niki and the Dove, MS MR, Atlas Genius, Charli XCX, The Knocks, MØ, Chvrches, and Janet Jackson. Goldroom’s West of the West comes on the heels of his sold out spring 2016 West coast headline tour and his debut performance at this year’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.
