Guns N Roses debuts ‘The General’

The band performs long-awaited new song live

Guns N Roses wrapped its 2023 World Tour with the premiere of “The General.” The band performed the song on the final night of a two-night stand at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Thursday (Nov 2nd).

“We’re gonna try a new song. I haven’t sung it since this tour started sometime this spring. It could be very interesting. If there’s ever a better place to fall on your face, I think this fuckin’ counts,” frontman Axl Rose said as the song started.

“The General” is an unreleased song from the band’s 2008 Chinese Democracy album sessions which featured Rose as the sole original member. Thirty-two songs were developed for the project, dating as far as 2006, but only 14 were released.

“The General” is the fourth new song since Slash and Duff McKagan returned to the band seven years ago. In 2021, the group released “”Absurd,” a reworked version of “Silkworms” from the Chinese Democracy sessions, “Hard Skool” and “Perhaps.” “Perhaps” was written and recorded by Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan this year, and is their first collective new composition and recording together in thirty years since 1993’s The Spaghetti Incident? “The General” will appear on the B-side to the “Perhaps” vinyl single, which is due to ship around December 7th.

The legendary hard rockers will perform its final show of the year at the Heaven and Hell Festival in Mexico on November 5th.

The 2023 World Tour marks the first time the group has toured North America since the monumental We’re F’N Back! Tour in 2021, which also steamrolled stadiums coast-to-coast including their first headliner at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, CA.
