Jake Worthington announces sophomore album

The set will be available this fall

Country neo-traditionalist Jake Worthington will release his sophomore studio album, When I Write The Song, on September 12th via Big Loud Texas, under exclusive license to Mercury Records/Republic Records. The new album is a 14-song jaunt made for barrooms and honky tonks, and follows his critically acclaimed self-titled debut album.

“This record means to me…it’s a reminder to fight the good fight,” shares the 2025 Texas Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year nominee. “I’m a strong believer in ‘do what moves ya.’ Make the kind of music that wrecks your world or picks up all the pieces. If it makes you feel that kind of way, and if that’s what you need, then don’t let anybody or anything change that. That’s what this record is to me.”

The set includes the new ballad “Not Like I Used To,” the tongue-in-cheek toe-tapper “It Ain’t The Whiskey,” “I’m The One” featuring Marty Stuart, last fall’s “Hello Shitty Day” with Miranda Lambert, and the unreleased “I Feel You” with Mae Estes.

For Big Loud Texas traditionalist Jake Worthington, country music is in his DNA. The La Porte, Texas native was raised on his grandfather’s porch performances of Ray Price, Merle Haggard and George Jones, and soon picked up his own Gibson acoustic to realize the breadth of his soon-to-be-classic, wide, and wild voice. Now, Worthington breathes fresh life into dance halls, beer joints, and ballrooms from Texas to Tennessee with his growing catalog.

Captivating the masses with his honky-tonk stylings, the singer-songwriter hits the road this fall, joining Zach Top as direct support on all dates of the Cold Beer & Country Music Tour, followed by supporting slots on Jon Pardi’s Honkytonk Hollywood Tour.

“I believe in country music as much as I believe in my next breath,” Worthington declares, and “blame it on my raising, but I think there ought to be room for country in country music.”
