Album is sequel to 2021’s Donda

Kanye West is planning to released Donda 2, the follow up to his 2021 Donda album, on February 22nd. The rapper, who recently legally changed his name to Ye, made the announcement with a photo of his childhood home on fire on a billboard with 2/22/22 plastered on the house.

The album is executive produced by Future, but no other details have been unveiled as of press time. After several delays, Donda was finally released in late August 2021, but the rapper says it was without his permission. Within the day, the album shot to No. 1 in 130 countries on Apple Music, marking a new feat for the rapper.

Ye hosted two separate listening events at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in July and August which featured a replica of his childhood home. Donda is named after his late mother who passed away in 2017 following complications from plastic surgery.

Donda is nominated for several awards at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. Nominations include “Album of the Year” and “Rap Album of the Year.” “Hurricane,” which features The Weeknd and Lil Baby, is up for “Best Melodic Rap Performance” while “Jail,” featuring Jay-Z, is nominated for “Best Rap Song.” This year’s GRAMMYs moved from its original date of January 31st in Los Angeles to April 3rd in Las Vegas due to the latest COVID-19 surge.
