West has moved Donda 2 to his Stem player

Kanye West is hosting a Donda 2 listening party tonight (Tues, Feb 22nd) in Miami. Fans can attend the in person event for as little as $75 or visit their local IMAX theater where they’ll see West perform his Grammy-nominated album Donda, along with a listening party of Donda 2.

The rapper, who legally changed his name to Ye recently, hosted two separate listening events at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in July and August which featured a replica of his childhood home. After several delays, Donda was finally released in late August 2021, but the rapper says it was without his permission. Donda is named after his late mother who passed away in 2017 following complications from plastic surgery.

Last week, West announced via Instagram that the album would be only available via his Stem player, a device he released with last year’s Donda where fans can remix songs using stems from each track.

Donda 2 will only be available on my own platform, the Stem Player. Not on Apple Amazon Spotify or YouTube,” he writes. “Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes. It’s time to free music from this oppressive system. It’s time to take control and build our own.”

The album was supposed to come preloaded onto the $200+ machine. However, many fans were upset when they didn’t receive the album at midnight. After the announcement, Ye reportedly made $1.3 million from selling 6200 devices.

Apple has reportedly pulled a $2 million sponsorship from West after the Stem announcement. DJ Akademiks says the sponsorship was pulled because Apple Music was scheduled to livestream the Donda 2 listening party.
