Song appears in season four finale

Metallica is praising the producers of Netflix’s Stranger Things for the inclusion of their 1986 hit, “Master of Puppets.” The band shared their enthusiasm on social media on Tuesday (July 5th).

“The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into Stranger Things has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include ‘Master of Puppets’ in the show but to have such a pivotal scene built around it. We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away… it’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that?” the band writes. “It’s an incredible honor to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show.”

The song appears in the season four finale as the Eddie Munson character shreds the song in order to help his friends send the demon Vecna back to the Upside Down alternate universe. The episode, titled “The Piggyback,” takes place in 1986.

Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo’s 17 year old son Tye contributed guitar tracks to the Stranger Things version.

“That’s my boy! Proud of ya Tye!” Trujillo shares on Instagram. “Stranger Things finale shredding it on ‘Master of Puppets’ and big thanks to Kirk Hammett on helping!”

In celebration, Metallica shares a newly recorded live video of the track from Prague on June 22nd.

“Heard any cool songs lately? ⚡ Prague ’22”
