James Hetfield has tested positive for COVID

Metallica has postponed its second show in Phoenix due to frontman James Hetfield testing positive for COVID. The band shared the news Saturday evening (Sept 2nd).

“We’re very sorry to report that tomorrow’s scheduled M72 date at State Farm Stadium has been postponed to Saturday, September 9, 2023, as unfortunately Covid has caught up with James. We’re extremely disappointed and regret any inconvenience this has caused for you; we look forward to returning to complete the M72 No Repeat Weekend in Glendale next Saturday.

“All tickets for September 3 will be honored at the September 9 show. For more information, including refund details if you cannot join next weekend, please visit SeatGeek.com. Keep your eyes on Metallica.com and our socials for additional details and updates.

”PS: All M72 Weekend Takeover events scheduled for today and tomorrow (9/2 and 9/3) are still happening.”

The band is currently on a two year trek in support of its latest album, 72 Seasons, released this spring. Each tour stop features a “No Repeat Weekend” performance with a different set list and supporting acts each night. The trek features a bold new in-the-round stage design that relocates the famed Metallica Snake Pit to center stage so that fans will have a complete 360 view of the show with a state-of-the-art multi-camera set up.

Last month, Metallica brought their M72 World Tour to global cinemas for Metallica: M72 World Tour Live From Arlington, TX – A Two Night Event.

The band will also headline the upcoming inaugural metal festival, Power Trip, in Indio, California in October alongside AC/DC, Judas Priest, Tool, Guns N Roses and Iron Maiden.
