“Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad” is from latest album

Moby has shared his new music video for “Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad.” The newly reworked track features Apollo Jane on vocals and appears on Moby’s new acclaimed album Reprise on Deutsche Grammophon. Reprise was notably released simultaneously with Moby Doc, a powerful new feature-length documentary, now in theaters in New York and Los Angeles, and on digital platforms across the US including Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.

“Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad” video was animated by the award-winning illustrator/animator Steve Cutts. Cutts and Moby worked together previously in 2017 on videos for Moby’s tracks “In This Cold Place” and “Are You Lost In The World Like Me?” with the latter winning the 2017 Webby Award for animation. Moby comments on this new video collaboration with Cutts, “In the course of my life and career I’ve made hundreds of music videos. But this might be my favorite of all of the videos I’ve made. As you’ll see, the amazing Steve Cutts and I have revisited the original ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad’ video. I hope you love it as much as I do.”

The new video features the cartoon character, “The Little Idiot” which Moby created in the mid-80’s and described as “a simple, humble little caricature of myself as a space alien bug.” In the clip, The Little Idiot, along with his canine companion, are seen trying to navigate the many urgent issues facing our planet including climate change, the pandemic and its impact on human interaction, animal rights and keeping our oceans clean just to name a few. The subtle and humane approach of the video’s messaging packs an unexpected punch, resulting in a moving and emotional three and a half minutes rarely delivered by a traditional music video.

Reprise sees Moby revisiting musical highlights from his notable 30-year career. Together with the Budapest Art Orchestra, he has re-envisioned some of his most recognizable rave classics and anthems with new arrangements for orchestra and acoustic instruments. Reprise features an eclectic and impressive array of guests including Alice Skye, Amythyst Kiah, Apollo Jane, Darlingside, Deitrick Haddon, Gregory Porter, Jim James, Kris Kristofferson, Luna Li, Mark Lanegan, Mindy Jones, Nataly Dawn, Novo Amor, Skylar Grey and Víkingur Ólafsson. The seeds for the project were sown when Moby was invited to take part in his first-ever classical collaboration – a live concert of his music at Walt Disney Concert Hall with his friend Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in 2018.
