“Amigo Amiga” is available now

On the eve of the Los Angeles Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert, Heart co-founder Nancy Wilson releases “Amigo Amiga” the tribute song she wrote for her friend, Taylor, a few days after his passing. The song and new lyric video, featuring Nancy, are available now. All proceeds from the release of the single will benefit MusiCares.

At the request of the Foo Fighters, Wilson will perform an iconic Heart song at the tribute concert tomorrow, September 27th, alongside other luminaries as they salute the life of one of the most beloved rock drummers.

“The night we heard about losing Taylor I started writing the song,” Wilson explains of the song. “I heard myself in tears saying ‘too soon too soon’ which became a refrain in the song. I spent quite a few sleepless nights trying to express it all. He was a wonderful friend and we always had funny pet names for each other like Amigo and Amiga as well as Luv and Dahling. I sang on his great solo album Get the Money at his home studio and later he returned the favor and played drums on my solo album.”

It is such a painful loss — but it also feels like Taylor has galvanized and re-energized Rock and Roll with so many of his musician friends and fans coming together — it’s a new renaissance Taylor and the Foo family have gifted us all.”

Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, Rush’s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, Wolfgang Van Halen, The Police’s Stewart Copeland, Jane’s Addiction’s Chris Chaney, Mark Ronson, Joshua Homme, drummer Omar Hakim, Hawkins’ cover band Chevy Metal, Miley Cyrus, Joan Jett, Alanis Morissette, Gene Simmons, Nikki Sixx, Chad Smith, Luke Spiller, Jon Theodore, Brad Wilk, Pat Wilson and others are slated to appear at the tribute show at The Forum in Inglewood, CA.

Hawkins was found dead in his Bogota, Colombia hotel room on March 25th while the Foo Fighters were on tour in South America. Initial results released by the Colombia Attorney General’s Office over the weekend indicate marijuana, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids were among 10 different substances found in his body. Further details reveal that Hawkins had a “cardiovascular collapse” after binging on a bevy of drugs in his Four Seasons hotel room. Forensic experts have also revealed that his heart weight 600 grams (1.3 pounds), double the average size of a man his age of 50 years old. However, an official cause of death has yet to be revealed.
