Baz Luhrmann’s label, House of Iona, and RCA Records have announced their partnership to release The Get Down: Original Soundtrack From The Netflix Original Series, set for exclusive release via Apple Music on August 12th. The soundtrack accompanies the highly anticipated music-driven drama series The Get Down, premiering globally on Netflix the same day. The soundtrack will be available for pre-order on August 5th.

Executive produced by Luhrmann and Nas, The Get Down: Original Soundtrack From The Netflix Original Series will feature music by the show’s cast as well as tracks by Nas, Miguel, Christina Aguilera, Zayn, Michael Kiwanuka, Leon Bridges, Jaden Smith, Raury and more. In addition to the stellar line up, Luhrmann has enlisted Grammy Award-winning producers/songwriters Malay and Emile Haynie as collaborators for the soundtrack, plus contributions from Elliott Wheeler, Grandmaster Flash and Nile Rodgers. Additional artists and full track listing will be announced soon.

“This album is an introduction to the many musical genres and styles that can be heard in The Get Down, which is really a story of New York in the late 70’s, an incredibly fertile time of creativity amid chaos,” says Luhrmann. “While our production is a musical that embodies many classic hits, we also use contemporary sounds and techniques connecting the dots between then and now. My great privilege is to have associated with such a diverse musical community.”

In advance of the soundtrack’s release, Luhrmann and series’ supervising producer, Nelson George, have compiled several playlists that capture the sounds of the late 70’s. Click the links below to listen to The Get Down playlists on Apple Music:
