Performance was during band’s European tour

Last night (Mon, July 11th), Queen + Adam Lambert surprised the crowd in Bologna, Italy with a stunning performance of “Nessun Dorma.”

Taking a pause from the usual set, Lambert’s dazzling rendition of the aria from the last act of Puccini’s Turandot, felt particularly fitting, with the show taking place in the birthplace of opera. Lambert’s performance, in Italian, astonished crowds, with fans taking to Twitter calling the performance “phenomenal.”

After the show Brian May took to Instagram to applaud Lambert and pay tribute to Pavarotti, who popularized the song with his performance during the 1990 World Cup.

“A spontaneous gift to Bologna last night!! So proud of Adam!!! I can see our dear departed friend Luciano smiling!! Let’s Rock tonight!!! Bri,” May shares.

Bologna sees the last of the Italian dates on the Rhapsody Tour, before continuing in France on tomorrow (Wed, July 13th).
