Rihanna, Elton John, “Weird Al” Yankovic and the Fleetwood Mac-inspired Daisy Jones & The Six are all among the 2023 Emmy nominations.

The Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show Starring Rihanna has earned five 2023 Emmy nominations. The critically acclaimed show was produced by DPS with Roc Nation and Jesse Collins serving as executive producers, and Hamish Hamilton serving as director.

The show is nominated for Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special, Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Variety Special (Live), and Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork for a Special.

The global superstar’s nearly 14 minute career-defining performance was the most-watched Super Bowl Halftime Show since Katy Perry’s in 2015 and second most-watched Super Bowl halftime performance on record.

In 2022, the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar made history, garnering five Creative Arts Emmy nominations, winning three Creative Arts Emmys, including Outstanding Variety Special (Live), a first ever for the show.

Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium racked up a total of three nominations, marking him one win away from EGOT status. The Rocket Man already holds awards for a Grammy, Oscar and Tony. The concert immortalizing his final North American show is up for Outstanding Variety Special (Live), Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special and Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork for a Special.

My final Dodger Stadium performance was bittersweet and an evening that I will never forget,” John shares about his nomination. “My team at Rocket Entertainment, the talented Fulwell 73, and everyone at Disney+ went above and beyond to create a magical production, not only for me as I said goodbye to North America, but for my fans all over the world to enjoy for years to come.”

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, a fictitious biopic of the parody singer, scores an impressive eight nominations. Yankovic scored two himself, including Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics and as a write for the film in the Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category. Daniel Radcliffe, who portrays Yankovic in the film, received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

The Amazon Original limited series, Daisy Jones & The Six, picked up a whopping nine nominations, including Outstanding Casting for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and Outstanding Music Supervision, among others. Riley Keough who portrayed the titular Daisy Jones, and Camila Morrone who played Camila in the series, each received nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and Outstanding Supporting Actress, respectively.

Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert that aired last fall on Paramount+ is also up for Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Variety Series Or Special.

The 75th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be held Monday, September 18th at 8 pm ET live from Los Angeles on Fox. The show recognizes excellence within various areas of television and emerging media.
