Latest Vevo Footnotes takes fans behind-the-scenes of Spanish track

Selena Gomez has partnered with Vevo for an exclusive behind the scenes look at the music video for her first Spanish language single in nearly a decade, “De Una Vez” (“At Once”) in the latest installment of Vevo Footnotes.

Gomez describes the extensive collaborative process with producers Tainy (Bad Bunny, J Balvin), Albert Hype, Jota Rosa and NEON16, which was recorded almost entirely over Zoom due to COVID, the deep symbolism behind the Milagro Sacred Heart and the thrill of using her own makeup line, Rare Beauty, to create the look for the video.

“‘De Una Vez’ was one of the first songs I worked on pretty early on. At the time, doing a Spanish project was just an idea being bounced around. Then the rest of the project just kind of happened really quickly and organically,” Gomez shares.

Tainy and his entire creative team at NEON16 (Jota Rosa, Albert Hype, etc.) produced the track.

“One of the biggest collaborators on the EP is Elana Rose — an incredible female writer who I think really understands my heart and what I wanted to say with this project,” Gomez shares.

Gomez used her new line of makeup, Rare Beauty, in the clip which was “a surreal, proud moment for me.”

Director Tania Verduzco and Adrian Pérez, aka Los Pérez, worked on the video remotely from Barcelona.

“We wanted to find a concept that represented Selena’s Mexican roots and express the emotion of the track in a simple and honest way,” Pérez states. “That’s how we thought about the Mexican Heart as a metaphor of a wound, and how it gets healed through time.

“She was always very open to hear our thoughts and gave us a lot of freedom. We chatted with her before the shoot and took her through the storyboard. It was very challenging shooting day because of the amount of technical things that demanded her trust.”

“De Una Vez” appears on her forthcoming Spanish language EP.
