Album includes a duet with Lana Del Rey
Taylor Swift has unveiled the track listing to her forthcoming Midnights album, due October 21st via Republic Records. The pop star began unveiling each track one by one on September 21st through a TikTok video series she called, Midnights Mayhem With Me.
“It’s me. Hi, I know that I have a habit of dropping cryptic clues and Easter eggs when giving you information about new music, and I am not here to deny that, but I’m here to defy that,” she says. “Welcome to a new series I’m calling Midnights Mayhem With Me. I’m going to be using this technologically-advanced device to help me allow fate to decide exactly what track titles I’m going to be announcing and in what order.”
Swift was being tongue-in-check about the “technologically-advanced device” as it’s a spinning wire drum containing ping pong balls marked one through thirteen.
While the order was unveiled randomly for 13 consecutive days, the final video revealed that track four is called “Snow on the Beach” featuring a duet with Lana Del Rey. Other tracks include “Bejeweled,” “Mastermind,” Vigilante Shit,” “Maroon,” and others.
The 13 song project will be available on CD, LP, cassette and digitally the same day via Republic Records. There will be multiple vinyl editions including a unique moonstone blue marbled color vinyl with a a collectible album sleeve (each side features a different full-size photo of Taylor) with a full-size gatefold photo and collectible eight-page lyric booklet with never-before-seen photos. The CD and cassette will also feature the unique moonstone blue marbled design for the disc artwork and cassette shell, respectively, with the CD containing a 24-page booklet.
“Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight,” Swift describes the album.
This is the pop star’s fourth project in two years. Swift, who is currently in the midst of releasing re-recorded versions of her first six studio albums following a public feud with her former label, Big Machine Label Group, most recently released Red (Taylor’s Version) which surpassed Spotify’s biggest opening day streams of all-time for a female with over 90 million, a record previously held by Swift herself. The album was Swift’s fifth consecutive album to exceed 50 million Spotify streams in 24 hours. The country-turned-pop star broke the record for the most-streamed album in a day by a female and the most-streamed female in a single day in Spotify history. Red (Taylor’s Version) immediately captured No. 1 on iTunes Overall Top Albums Chart and Apple Music.
With the three projects, Swift broke a 54 year record held by The Beatles in the United Kingdom for the fastest accumulation of three No. 1 albums. She captured her third chart-topping album in a span of 259 days with Fearless (Taylor’s Version), which followed Folklore on July 31, 2020 and Evermore on December 18, 2020.
