Alaina will be inducted in 2022

Lauren Alaina is newest inductee into the Grand Ole Opry. Much to her surprise, Alaina was invited by her mentor and fellow Opry member Trisha Yearwood on Saturday (Dec 18th) with her parents in attendance.

“I have the honor of asking you, on behalf of the Grand Ole Opry, if you would please accept our invitation to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry,” Yearwood asks as Alaina sobs in excitement. “This is sorta like a wedding proposal, you have to say yes.”

“Ya’ll don’t understand,” she says crying. “I’m good. I’m good. I have not cried like this in a really long time, I guess I needed it.”

“I really did not expect this. [Trisha] is literally my hero, so this is like — ya’ll if you haven’t read my book, I don’t care if you read the whole thing. I do a little bit. But if you can read what she said about me in my book, it was I cried like this in my living room and people didn’t get to see it. So here we are, but I could not have picked a more perfect person to ask me and she is the best. She calls me Junior, and I literally like, I’m in her phone as Junior which is the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me besides this. So, I’m not kidding. I was backstage and I was like, can you please tell the Opry I just — the only thing I want is to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry and then I snotted on stage over it. I usually can say a lot and I’ve been speechless.”

Yearwood adds, “Let me say a couple of things You are the real deal. You talked about this. Over 50 times you’ve played the Opry. It’s obvious what it means to you. This is a very special club to be in because you have to understand what the Opry means to be asked. So it’s such an honor. It was so cool for me to be watching the show tonight because the man who asked me to be a member was Ricky Skaggs who just sang and so it’s all been full circle for me tonight, too.”

Alaina will be inducted sometime in 2022.

Alaina made her Opry debut shortly after finishing her run on American Idol.
