Band will rest for two weeks
Lynyrd Skynyrd has postponed four tour dates due to long time guitarist Rickey Medlocke contracting COVID-19. The band shares it is unable to perform in Canton, OH, Jackson, MI, Atlanta, GA and Cullman, AL.
“Rickey is home resting and responding well to treatment. We will continue to update you on his condition,” the band shares in a social media post.
The show in Atlanta, GA on Friday, August 13th is being rescheduled and will now be Saturday, October 23rd. However, there’s no word on the other three dates at this time.
The band is currently in the midst of its Big Wheels Keep On Turnin’ Tour that runs through November 19th. Tesla is direct support for a majority of the the 30 date trek with Kansas, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Blackberry Smoke, Allman Betts Band, and The Marshall Tucker Band supporting select dates.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers were well into the Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour when the worldwide shutdown forced the band – and all musicians – off the road. During their 15 months of rest, the southern rock icons decided they weren’t quite ready to say “farewell.”
“Being locked down brought a big perspective of how much I missed the band and the fans and not to ever take it for granted,” Medlocke shares. “Merle Haggard was once asked, ‘Why do you do this? You don’t need to do this.’ He said, ‘I’m a musician, this is what I do – I play.’ That’s what we are. We’re musicians. We play. No matter what comes around, we love to be out playing for the fans. Once the band hits the stage, I hope everybody will forget about last year for a little while.”
The Big Wheels Keep on Turnin’ Tour restarts on August 19th in Canandaigua, NY.
