Foo Fighters announce pop-up theater show

The show will be in California tonight

The Foo Fighters have announced a surprise pop-up concert at the Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, CA, tonight (Sat, Sept 13th), marking the group’s first show since August 2024.

Tickets were sold in person at the box office only, beginning at 8 am PT this morning. There was a two-ticket limit per person, and the cost was $30 per ticket. No cash or digital payments were accepted; only credit card purchases were allowed by the cardholder. The ticket holder must present ID to enter with their guest.

Fans were lined up around the block last night to attempt to purchase tickets to the 900-capacity general admission venue.

The group also shared an instrumental snippet of a new song with the announcement. The crunchy guitars and bombastic drums recreate classic Foo Fighters music. No further info on the song was shared as of press time. The tease follows the July release of “Today’s Song,” which was the first new music since the band’s 2023 album, But Here We Are.

The show is the only one announced for the US as of now. The group will headline several international dates starting on October 2nd, including in Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, and Mexico through November 14th.

Josh Freese, who joined the band in May 2023 following the death of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins, recently announced he has been let go from the band. He stated that the band wanted “to go in a different direction with their drummer,” and no specific reason was given. Freese has since shared a humorous “Top 10 possible reasons” list for his dismissal.

In July, Grohl and Co. brought in Ilan Rubin as their new drummer, with Josh Freese returning to Nine Inch Nails. This move effectively constitutes a “drummer swap” between the two prominent ’90s bands.
