This is the third surprise show in two weeks in the US
Foo Fighters will play a surprise show tonight (Sun, Sept 21st) at The Black Cat in Washington, DC. The group shared the news on Sunday afternoon, stating fans can line up to purchase up to two tickets for $30 beginning at 4 pm ET. Once in line, fans will receive a wristband to confirm their place and will enter the venue immediately after purchasing.
This is the third pop-up show in two weeks, following two in California last week. Last Saturday, they performed at the Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, CA, followed by The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA on Monday.
The group will headline several international dates starting on October 2nd, including in Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, and Mexico through November 14th.
Josh Freese, who joined the band in May 2023 following the death of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins, recently announced he has been let go from the band. He stated that the band wanted “to go in a different direction with their drummer,” and no specific reason was given. Freese has since shared a humorous “Top 10 possible reasons” list for his dismissal.
In July, Grohl and Co. brought in Ilan Rubin as their new drummer, with Josh Freese returning to Nine Inch Nails. This move effectively constitutes a “drummer swap” between the two prominent ’90s bands.
