“Don’t Think I Ain’t Country” was never released to radio
Grammy winning singer/songwriter, John Berry, released his EP, Thomas Road, on November 30, 2018, and this week “Don’t Think I Ain’t Country,” a song on the project that was never released to radio as a single, has reached No. 1 on the Christian Music Weekly Country Chart for the week of July 24th. The tongue-in-cheek tune with catchy lyrics was co-written with Country Music Hall of Fame and Grand Ole Opry Member, Bill Anderson. “Don’t Think I Ain’t Country” is available on digital formats for streaming and download and can be ordered from his website.
“I am taken aback at the news that this fun song I wrote with my friend Bill Anderson has topped the Christian Music Weekly Country Chart!!” shares Berry. “I have loved this song since the day we wrote it. I was driving down I-65 to meet with Bill for a writing appointment and I really had no ideas for a song to write that day. About that time a very large 4×4 pickup truck blasted past me on the interstate and I said out loud “Don’t think I ain’t country ’cause I don’t drive a big truck”…I couldn’t get to Bill’s office fast enough!!”
It is no surprise that John Berry quickly sells out venues all over the country. The Entertainment Nexus once described the award-winning entertainer as “one of the most remarkable voices in music.”
The feat follows Berry’s “The Graduation Song,” a song he wrote over 43 years ago during his senior year of high school honoring 2020 graduates. The tune was written in 1977 by John Berry when he was 17 years old. He was also featured in Joe & Martina’s “Give Me Back The ’90s,” released earlier this year.
Berry was a guest on The Music Universe Podcast earlier this spring.
