Classic East and Classic West set for July

Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Journey and Earth, Wind & Fire are set to join The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac for Classic East and Classic West festivals this summer in New York and Los Angeles. Billboard reports that the inaugural event will kick off with Classic West July 15-16 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles and that Classic East will be held July 29-30 at Citi Field in New York.

The lineup is identical for both cities. The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan will open for the Eagles Friday night with Journey and Earth, Wind & Fire opening for Fleetwood Mac Saturday night.

All six acts have management ties to music mogul Irving Azoff, who along with Live Nation, the Oak View Group and CAA, are involved in organizing the possible annual event.

As of this writing, still no official announcement has been made regarding the event. Last week, organizers told the LA Times that “we are not prepared to release anything officially — this caught us by surprise,” referring to Billboard’s original article.

The news comes after Goldenvoice and AEG Live’s classic rock festival, Desert Trip, was a huge success last October raking in more than $160 million in profit over two weekends. The inaugural event featured The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and The Who sharing the same bill for the first time ever. Producers have not announced if the show will return to the Coachella site in Indio again this year.
