Body has been returned to the US

Colombian officials have released further details surrounding the death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins last week. Initial results released by the Colombia Attorney General’s Office over the weekend indicate marijuana, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids were among 10 different substances found in his body.

Now, further details reveal that Hawkins had a “cardiovascular collapse” after binging on a bevy of drugs in his Four Seasons hotel room in Bogota on Friday (Mar 25th). Forensic experts have also revealed that his heart weight 600 grams (1.3 pounds), double the average size of a man his age of 50 years old.

The band was on tour in South America when Hawkins had complained of chest pains. Staff at the Casa Medina hotel near Bogota, Colombia where the band was staying, had called for emergency personnel, but Hawkins was found deceased in his room after doctors arrived with an ambulance. Efforts to resuscitate Hawkins were unsuccessful.

The Daily Mail writes that unconfirmed reports of a police officer who entered Hawkins’ suite had found a “cocaine-like” white powder. Another says several glasses were found in the room, leading to speculation the drummer had entertained guests before prepping to perform a sold out show in Bogota.

Authorities expect to share further findings in a week.

The band returned home to Los Angeles on Saturday (Mar 26th), one day after Hawkins’ death, while their tour manager Gus Brandt, reportedly stayed in Bogota. The band’s private plane was chartered back to Bogota on Tuesday (Mar 29th) to collect Hawkins’ remains. The Daily Mail photographed a plain black casket being loaded onto the jet bound for Los Angeles.

The band shared that it has canceled all future tour dates for the foreseeable future.

“We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together.”

The band was scheduled to kick of an extensive 2022 tour in May that would’ve seen the band hit global markets including sold out dates in Australia and stops at several US festivals, including Welcome to Rockville 2022, Boston Calling, and Aftershock, among others.
