The items were reported stolen

The Estate of Tom Petty has resolved its claims with RR Auction regarding personal clothing and items that the auction house was selling earlier this year. The Estate and RR Auction released a joint statement that the items were returned without litigation.

“The Petty family is grateful that RR Auction facilitated the safe return of the items, which have been returned to the Petty family’s secure archives, and there is currently no belief RR Auction committed or knew of any wrongdoing regarding the disrupted ownership of the items,” a rep for the auction house shares.

“To show their gratitude, the family has agreed to a select few of the belongings to be offered for auction through RR Auction. The family supports the upcoming sale and verifies the authenticity of the items to be offered.”

In May, Petty’s family pursued “swift legal action” against RR Auction claiming the items up for sale were stolen from the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s archives. The missing articles included jackets, hats, vests, boots, shirts, shoes, autographed items and recent exclusive limited editions easily traced back to family members and more.

RR Auction responded to the claims stating they were “aggressively investigating” and were working with the Petty family on a resolution.
