Updated version of “Have You Forgotten?” drops June 30th
Darryl Worley is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his 9/11 patriotic hit, “Have You Forgotten?” with a re-written version entitled “Have We Forgotten?” The true-to-original re-recording with updated lyrics will be available digitally and at radio on Friday, June 30th via Big Machine’s Valory Music Co.
Worley has teamed with his original co-writer Wynn Varble to express their thoughts on the current state of the nation.
“Have we forgotten/Who we really are/All the storms we’ve had to weather/And how we ever got this far/Have we forgotten/How it used to be/When we could sit down together and agree to disagree/And the common good is what we had it common/Have we forgotten,” Worley sings in the chorus.
As he did with the 2003 original, the country star is hoping the new version will reunite Americans once again, despite their differences.
“A question we all need to ask ourselves!!” Worley writes of the song’s title. “It’s a completely different take on my biggest hit! The melody will be familiar but the words are different! The sentiment is different! Wynn Varble and I asked ourselves some hard questions and this song was the result! It’s born out of our own self introspection and our heart felt love of this nation! At the end of the day we are all Americans! Stay tuned more news to come!”
He continues, “So, this being the 20th anniversary of our song ‘Have You Forgotten,’ Wynn Varble, my co-writer and I decided to sit down and write a new lyric that’s more about what’s going on in our nation today. The song turned out amazing so I decided to pitch it around town to a few labels to see what kind of response I might get. Big Machine responded right back and let us know that they were interested in talking about what we might want to do with the song, and as it turns out, it’s going to be released very soon, and we’re very excited for this opportunity. Y’all wish us luck, I guess you could say here we go again.”
The song will be featured the one hour radio special, Darryl Worley “Have We Forgotten” 4th of July Celebration, featuring music from Thomas Rhett, Justin Moore, Brantley Gilbert, Riley Green, Florida Georgia Line, airing on radio stations nationwide through Independence Day.
“Have You Forgotten?” was released 18 months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York City. The song became Worley’s biggest mainstream hit after reaching No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for seven weeks and No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100.
